Free Ways to Find Connection & Care in the Community

Care doesn’t always come from big plans or expensive experiences. Often, it lives in small, shared moments, a quiet library visit, a conversation with a neighbor, or a walk under an open sky.

Here are a few free and low-cost ways to nurture connection and wellbeing right here in our community.

1. Libraries as Community Spaces

Libraries offer more than books - they provide warmth, safety, learning, and connection.

Visiting the Library can be a grounding experience, whether you’re browsing, reading quietly, or attending a free program.

If getting there isn’t easy, the Libby app allows you to borrow e-books and audiobooks from home using your library card.

Libraries are places where you can slow down, feel welcome, and exist without expectation.

2. Taking a Walk - Even When It’s Chilly

While the weather may still be cold at times, stepping outside can offer clarity and calm. A short walk around your block, through a park, or along a quiet street can help regulate your body and shift your perspective.

3. Try pausing for a moment to:

Look up at the sky

Notice the clouds or changing light

Take a few slow breaths

Even brief time outdoors can be restorative.

4. Exploring the City for Free

The RAD Pass offers free access to museums, cultural centers, and local experiences using your library card. It’s a wonderful way to explore the city, learn something new, and enjoy meaningful experiences without financial barriers.

5. Small Moments of Connection

Connection doesn’t always mean deep conversation. It can be:

A quiet hello at the library

Sitting near others while reading

Sharing space without needing to explain yourself

At PBH Affinity Circles, we believe these moments matter. Community care often begins with simply being present.
